about

35 MUSICAL CANONS PERFORMED ON CLAVICHORD

Explore new possibilities in the art of placing a melody into conversation with itself -- the art of canon. Enjoy the subtle, guitar-like voice of the clavichord expertly performed. Hear a seamless interplay of tradition and experiment, old and new. Challenge your ear to perceive and delight in musical dialogues fast and slow, shapely and jagged, agitated and tranquil -- dialogues that grasp at something beyond the notes, beyond the piece, something infinite.

What surprises does the landscape of imitative counterpoint, a musical playground for centuries, hold for a listener today? Find out.

This album contains 35 tracks lasting 93 minutes.

The cover art was painted by calligrapher and illustrator Svetlana Molodchenko for this album. More about this artwork can be found here: rudiseitz.com/2023/02/23/the-garden-and-the-cosmos/

The illustration for Track 18 "Meteorite" is by Jon Wilcox. It shows a meteorite impact that sends gems, minerals, and birds flying in all directions. Prominent among the gems is the rainbow colored fossil Ammolite. The illustration represents the structure of the album: the three largest pieces are Meteorite, Ammolite, and Birdsong, and all the others are named after gems and minerals. Meteorite is in the center of the tracklist and can be heard as a repository of abstract ideas from which all the other pieces emerge. See that illustration here: rudiseitz.bandcamp.com/track/meteorite

The illustration for Track 4 "Birdsong" is by Andreea Dumuta. See it here: rudiseitz.bandcamp.com/track/birdsong

Additional art will be commissioned and more descriptions, videos, and other material about the canons will be made available.
